Fertility Awareness Methods(FAMs, Natural Family Planning Methods) are ways to track ovulation in order to plan or prevent pregnancy. Lady Calendar is an easy tool for woman to understand and use Fertility Awareness methods.
Different signs or indications are observed and recorded to recognize the fertile and infertile times of the menstrual cycle. The main fertility indicators are body temperature, cervical secretions and menstrual cycle. These methods are Basal Body Temperature Method, Ovulation (Cervical Mucus) Method, Calendar Method and Symptothermal method. The fertile time is when you can become pregnant. In order to know when you are most likely to get pregnant, you have to understand your menstrual cycle. The menstrual cycle is controlled by your bodys natural hormones estrogen and progesterone. The average length of the menstrual cycle is around 28 days, although many women have longer or shorter cycles and this is normal. And it's not unusual for the number of days in each cycle to vary from month to month.
FAMs are up to 99 % effective, depending on which method is used. It is more effective when taught by a specialist or a natural family planning teacher, and when more than one fertility indicator is used. The major advantages of Fertility Awareness methods : It makes you more aware of your fertility and can help to plan a pregnancy or to avoid a pregnancy.
Do not depend on FAMs if you have irregular periods, have a sexually transmitted infection or frequent abnormal vaginal discharges can not keep careful records. It may be more difficult to track your fertility if you are breastfeeding, are a teenager, or are getting close to menopause.
Don't switch to a FAM after using a hormonal one, such as the pill.
